When planning to study abroad it is important to plan well in advance. To help plan for the trimester you wish to study at Victoria University of Wellington, please refer to the University Dates and Deadlines

  • Study abroad students applying through a Study Abroad provider, e.g. Australearn, Arcadia, IFSA Butler, CIS, Education Abroad Network, or AIFS, do not complete the following process. Please contact your Study Abroad Provider with questions about the process.
  • Study Abroad students applying through the home university must discuss the application process with the home Study Abroad Office, as the application process and fees payment process may differ from the process below.
  • Exchange students must apply through the home university Exchange/International Office.

Before you begin

Make sure to plan ahead to have a realistic amount of time to prepare for your intended start date. Important factors to consider are:

1: Select a programme of study

We encourage you to research the courses available, what they involve and what will be expected of you during your studies at Victoria. Some courses may have an additional application requirement e.g. Creative Writing, Music, Architecture and Design. Please contact our International Admissions Team for advice.

We also recommend you discuss your proposed study plan with your Academic Adviser at your home university for credit transfer purposes before applying to Victoria University of Wellington.

2: Check admission requirements

You can check the required minimum academic background, as well as the necessary level of English language proficiency, if applicable, for study abroad at Victoria.

3: Get the application form

4: Complete and post your application

All sections of the application form must be completed and all information must be written clearly in ink. Make sure you include with your application original or certified copies of your academic transcripts.

Be sure to send in your application before the application closing dates:

  • Trimester 1 (February) – 1 December
  • Trimester 2 (July) – 1 May
  • Trimester 3 (November) – 1 September

Applications received after the above dates will be considered whenever possible.

5: Receive an offer to study

After your application has been received, it will be assessed. Successful applicants will be emailed the offer letter and pre-departure information.

For ongoing correspondence regarding your application, we recommend you contact our International Admissions Team by email.

If you have not heard from our Admissions Team within one week of submitting your application, please contact us. Please note that during our busy periods there may be a slight delay in application processing.

6: Pay your fees:

Study Abroad students: If your tuition fees are paid to Victoria University of Wellington on your behalf by your Study Abroad provider or home university, please disregard this step.

Exchange students: please disregard this step. However, you may be required to pay course material charges and insurance when you enrol at the university. For more information about these costs, please talk with your home Exchange/International Office.

For direct study abroad applicants, you will be emailed your Fees Assessment along with the offer letter. Along with your Fees Assessment you will also receive instructions for payment. Most students will be able to pay their fees through a local bank using  Custom House .

 

Ensure you have applied for university housing by the appropriate deadline.

Academic Documentation

  • Submit original or certified photocopies of all previous tertiary studies (a full academic transcript showing all subjects attempted, including failures, marks or grades).
  • Acceptable certifying bodies are: The academic institution who awarded the qualification, a government office / embassy, a New Zealand diplomatic post, a New Zealand based Justice of the Peace or Lawyer.

English Language Certification:

    • IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge examinations must be original copies
      .
    • Letters from academic institutions supporting or certifying English Language must be signed originals and be supplied on the institutions official letter head with the signatories contact details.
